May 16, 2014

Low tides return this weekend, creating a good opportunity to do some coastal exploring.

STEVE BLOOM/STAFF FILE, 2006

This weekend will mark the first of a series of monthly low tides that make for good tidepool exploring.

Tide tables for the Tacoma Narrows shows the first will be Friday, May 16, at 1:07 p.m., measuring -2.7 feet. On Saturday, the tide will be -2.7 feet at 1:52 p.m. On Sunday at 2:40 p.m., the low tide will be -2.2 feet.

You can check tide times at other locations at saltwatertides.com.

The Tacoma Nature Center will hold its first Tiptoe through the Tidepools program Saturday from noon-3 p.m. Naturalists will be on hand for the free program, teaching children and adults about what they might see at Titlow Beach, at the west end of Sixth Avenue in Tacoma.

The next series of good low tides will be June 12-16 and then July 11-14.
