County adds drop-off station

OlympianMay 16, 2014

Thurston County has teamed up with South Sound Habitat for Humanity to operate a recycling station for building materials and household items.

The recycling center is located at the county's Waste and Recovery Center in Hawks Prairie and accepts the same materials as the Habitat for Humanity stores in Olympia and Yelm.

Donated building supplies and household goods are tax deductible and allows the donor to skip the costs of disposal. Habitat resells the items at its stores and uses the proceeds to building housing for low-income families.

Among the items accepted are working appliances, cabinets, doors, flooring, furniture, light fixtures, hardware, plumbing, roofing and non-aluminum windows.
