Anti-Israel speech omitted key history

OlympiaMay 17, 2014

On May 14 Ali Abunamah, co-founder of BDS (Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions against Israel) spoke in Olympia. He and his fellow co-founder of BDS favor a one-state solution with full return of all Palestinians, effectively erasing Israel, the only Jewish state. Abunamah’s talk eloquently denied this.

Historical facts he did not include: The area called Palestine (governed by the Roman, Ottoman and British/French empires), included Jews, Christians, and Muslims. Not a state, its U.N. partition re-created the nation of Israel in 1948 and offered a separate state of Palestine for Muslims.

Muslim leaders rejected statehood, insisted Muslims leave the area and expelled Jews from their countries into the area; Arabs, Palestinians attacked to control the whole area. Failing that, since 1948, Muslim terrorists influenced and now govern Palestinian territories, from where rockets and suicide bombers killed many Israelis.

Suffering of Palestinians is due to Hamas/ Hezbollah terrorist leadership focused on destroying Israel rather than building a Palestinian state. Israel’s wall, checkpoints, settlements, occupation are survival defenses against terrorist attacks, like no other nation has faced.

BDS is only the latest in a long line of terrorist-backed groups set on destroying the only Jewish state and the only democracy in the Middle East, and propagandizing western peoples to follow their lead. BDS, Hamas, Hezbollah are not pro-America or pro-humanitarianism any more than Al Qaeda is.
