Capital City Marathon will affect traffic

Eastside Street Southeast between 18th Avenue Southeast and Boundary Street Southeast will be closed to drivers during Sunday's Capital City Marathon.

The closure is being implemented this year to boost runner safety, the city said in a press release.

Auto traffic will be diverted around the curve via 18th Avenue and Boundary Street. The detour will begin around 8 a.m. and is expected to last two to three hours, according to the release.

Access to Eastside Street from 20th Avenue Southeast will also be closed.

Other road closures:

 • Capitol Way between Union Avenue Southeast and Legion Way Southeast.

 • Washington Street from Seventh Avenue Southeast to B Avenue Northeast.

33rd Capital City Marathon

Sunday’s starting times: marathon, 7 a.m.; half-marathon, 7:45 a.m.; 5.2-mile race, 8 a.m.

Start line: Washington Street between Legion Way and Seventh Avenue, next to Sylvester Park

Finish line: Capitol Way between Seventh Avenue and Legion Way, on opposite side of Sylvester Park

Last year’s winners: men — Jesse Stevick, 2:32:05; women — Stephanie Kuhn, 3:18:54
