Monroe keeps district title

LONGVIEW — Tumwater High School senior Kayla Monroe repeated as the Class 2A District IV girls golf champion, shooting an 83 on Wednesday at the Mint Valley Golf Course in Longview to win the title by four strokes.

Monroe finished with a two-day total of 168. She entered Wednesday’s final round in second place, two strokes behind Capital’s Kelsey Wilder, who finished second at 172.

Last year, Monroe shot a 14-over-par 158 to win the district title at The Home Course in DuPont.

The top 17 golfers at districts advance to the Class 2A girls state tournament May 28-29 at The Classic Golf Club in Spanaway.

Hockinson’s Cameron Bielat finished third at 183 to help the Hawks win the team championship with 193 points. Runner-up Capital (180) has four state-bound golfers: Wilder, Naomi Yamamoto (fourth, 184), Alison Kwieciak (eighth, 189) and Mica Livingston (11th, 196).

Tumwater’s Anna Bednarik is a state alternate.
