A 41-year-old man was flown to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle on Sunday after suffering serious injuries from a 40- to 50-foot fall, according to Capt. Don Wilson with Southeast Thurston Fire Authority. The man had been working in a tree, he said.

“When he cut the top of the tree, the tree sprung back, and the root system wasn’t very good, and it fell,” Wilson said. “And he was strapped to the tree with climbing gear.”

Crews were dispatched to the scene of the fall in the 15600 block of Carla Court SE, Yelm, at about 2:30 p.m.

The man was conscious, but had suffered “multiple traumatic injuries to the pelvis and possible legs,” Wilson said.

No other details were available.
