Lockdown drills are scheduled next week at the Thurston County Courthouse complex, 2000 Lakeridge Dr. SW.

“It’s important that we rehearse the proper response to various threats, human caused and natural, so that we can protect courthouse visitors and county staff should an event occur in real life,” Thurston County Commission chair Karen Valenzuela said in a news release.

During the drills, which will take place at various times Monday through Friday, courthouse visitors will be guided to gathering areas or asked to wait until the exercises are over, county spokesman John Tennis said. Similar drills may be held at the Family and Juvenile Court in the Mottman Industrial Area, and other county facilities, he said. The drills will be at various times and are expected to last under 30 minutes, Tennis added.
