The Mason County Sheriff’s Office needs volunteer retirees to help with administrative duties such as answering phones, fingerprinting, issuing permits and public awareness programs. Assignments on the road are available after six months of work in the office. Volunteers go through 12 hours of training, then donate a four-hour shift per week at the North Precinct in Belfair. RETIRED AND SENIOR VOLUNTEER PROGRAM (RSVP) needs volunteers, and will help volunteers ages 55 and older with consultation, placement and supplemental insurance benefits. Opportunities include packing boxes and distributing food to clients and picking up donations and sorting items at the Thurston County Food Bank. People can also assist the elderly and people with disabilities in their homes, doing light housework and simple home projects through Catholic Community Services. Volunteers are also needed to be greeters in the office of SideWalk, the homeless advocacy program, and as a driver for Meals on Wheels through Senior Services of South Sound. Volunteers also are needed at a coffee shop in the senior center run by Senior Services of South Sound and for community outreach and communications work at Homes First! People are also needed to drive elderly clients to medical appointments and essential errands through Catholic Community Services.
