OlympianJune 3, 2014

Congressional candidate Joyce McDonald is speaking to the Panorama Republicans group on Thursday in Lacey. McDonald, a former state legislator who serves on the Pierce County Council, is running against first-term U.S. Rep. Denny Heck in the 10th district.

Heck is an Olympia Democrat; McDonald is a Puyallup Republican. Her appearance is at 2 p.m. in the Quinault Auditorium at the Panorama retirement community off of Sleater-Kinney Road.

The meetings are open to the public regardless of political affiliation. For details, call the GOP group’s chairman Dale Vincent at 360-438-5561.

Also filing to run in the 10th this year were Jennifer Gigi Ferguson of Lakewood, who filed as an Independent candidate, and Sam Wright of Olympia, who filed with the Human Rights Party. Federal Election Commission records show Heck has reported raising more than $1 million, while McDonald, who announced her bid relatively recently, raised about $2,155.
