Reduce size of JBLM to solve I-5 traffic woes

OlympiaJune 8, 2014

The current Washington state regional debate is how to solve the traffic issues on I-5 near Fort Lewis or JBLM as it is now known. This is presented as a transportation problem. But it is much more than that.

Too many military personnel are housed at JBLM because this country focuses on military solutions. But military actions do not solve social issues. Look at today’s confrontations with Russia. Political pressure has been far more effective then a threatened NATO force action.

The best solution for the JBLM transportation problem is to reduce the expensive base operations and reduce the size of the base and its dependent families.
