Bicyclists need to helpensure roadway safety

June 13, 2014

I was happy to see the crosswalk lights installed at the roundabouts on Pacific and Lacey Blvd. It was not always easy to see pedestrians or bicyclists crossing. However, the pedestrians and bicyclist have a responsibility too. They need to push the button and cross only when the lights are flashing.

Again this morning, a couple of bicyclists whipped across the crosswalk not slowing down or even pushing the button for the lights. They are being unsafe but would be the first to yell if a motorist did not stop for them.

Please use the crosswalk and lights that are in place for everyone’s safety. None of us are too busy to wait for a light to make sure everyone on the road is safe.
