A 17-year-old Tacoma boy who drowned in the Chehalis River Saturday was Linsey Mike, the Lewis County Coroner’s Office said Monday.

The Lewis County Sheriff’s Office said Linsey had lived in Washington for eight months, and originally was from Nigeria.

He was on his first camping trip, at Rainbow Falls State Park in Chehalis, when he jumped into the water and started flailing, the office said. He had told his friends he wasn’t a good swimmer.

One friend jumped in and tried to help, but he went under before she reached him.

Rescue teams searched until dark Saturday, and found the boy’s body when they returned Sunday morning.

The coroner’s office confirmed Monday that Linsey’s death was an accidental drowning.
