Thieves target mail, package deliveries

June 17, 2014

In recent weeks, an increase in mail and package thefts has plagued Thurston County.

Thieves are targeting both “stand-alone” mailboxes and stands with multiple boxes. Their methods include taking mail from unsecured mailboxes as well as forcing open more secure mailboxes.

The same people who target mailboxes are targeting UPS and FedEx trucks making delivieries to private homes. Thieves go onto private property after deliveries are made and steal whatever the driver has left.

Residents are strongly encouraged to be aware of persons or vehicles who appear to be strange to the area, out of place, or acting strangely around community mailboxes and neighbors’ property.

If you have information regarding mail or package thefts, you are urged to call local law enforcement, or Crime Stoppers, at 800-222-8477. Crime Stoppers pays up to $1,000 for information leading to an arrest and charges being filed on these crimes, or any other crimes. Calls to Crime Stoppers can remain anonymous.
