Open up Maple Lane to immigrant children

OlympiaJuly 3, 2014

The Olympian’s June 24 front-page article was about immigrant children. As a community, I think we could really help by encouraging the state to open up the former Maple Lane School to house these children.

The facility is basically sitting empty and could handle upwards of 150 children right now. Our local communities could or should be allowed to visit and “adopt” the children to help them thru the paperwork maze. Yes it would cost some bucks to make this happen but federal combined with state and private contributions makes it doable.
