Backpackers can pack an ounce lighter on trips to Mount Rainier and Mount Baker thanks to a new maps from Seattle-based Green Trails Maps.

The 41-year-old company launched the new maps July 1 and claim they are waterproof and tear-resistant. It’s also part of a marketing push that includes a new website.

The new maps weigh 1.5 ounces, 40 percent less than previous maps, according to a statement released by the company. However, the maps cover more terrain.

The Mount Baker and Mount Rainier are among 20 maps in the ultralight line.
