The Richland Police Department will reassign 10 officers to handle fireworks related calls on the Fourth of July.
The officers will focus on education and enforcement involving people found with illegal fireworks.
The city bans the use of fireworks that leave the ground or shoot projectiles into the air. Fireworks stands within the city sell fireworks that are legal to use in Richland.
Police emphasize the rule of thumb, If it files, it doesnt fly here.
The fine for possessing or firing illegal fireworks in Richland is $250, said officials.
Fireworks can also be shot off legally, with restrictions, in unincorporated Benton County, West Richland, Benton City and Burbank.
They are banned entirely in Kennewick, Pasco, rural Franklin County and Prosser.
