Ugly downtown eyesore not preservation worthy

July 6, 2014

Downtown Olympia has a beautiful shoreline with the Olympic Mountains in the distance. The shoreline is interrupted by a vacant 130-foot tall building. No point wrapping a historic preservation flag around this ugly eyesore.

I envision the day when the space between the Heritage Park Fountain and the Fourth Avenue Bridge is made into a park to complement the lake (or future estuary) and Budd Inlet. At the least, current owners should be convinced to tear down the structure and erect a site-appropriate building meeting city code.
