Public funds mergers, high-priced speakers

OlympiaJuly 8, 2014

We received our monthly statement from Comcast yesterday and were informed they are increasing their fees due to increased costs and upgrades provided. This is the same corporation that recently acquired NBC/Universal and is in the process of acquiring Time Warner Cable. Wonder if those increased costs are based on these acquisitions?

A similar situation is arising among some universities, both public and private, who are seeking increases in tuition while paying over $200,000 for the privilege of having Hillary Clinton speak. (Apparently, the Clintons, who are now among the 1 percent, consider the information they provide in speeches to be worth the increases in tuition.)
