Man jailed for attempted carjacking after crash

— A 38-year-old man is in jail after he allegedly crashed his motorcycle on Interstate 5 in Everett and then attempted to carjack a family before fleeing.

KOMO reports that Seattle police arrested 38-year-old William Westmoreland Tuesday.

Jail records show he was booked into Snohomish County Jail late Tuesday on investigation of attempted robbery, possession of a stolen vehicle and other violations.

State patrol spokesman Mark Francis says Westmoreland was speeding south on I-5 on Monday when he crashed into another car in south Everett. As one woman tried to help him, he tried to carjack her.

Francis says the woman and her husband fought off the man. The suspect ran away but reportedly left his identification at the crash scene.
