About 50 people were marching with signs and chanting through downtown Olympia starting at noon today in support of presidential candidate Ron Paul.

The marchers started at 4th and Water streets and were traveling down roads, affecting traffic.

One of the organizers, Randy Turner, said this morning before the march that people were coming from Seattle, Tacoma and Vancouver.

The march is part of a nationwide effort of marches in cities in support of Paul.

Turner said supporters like Paul's stance of "Peace, Liberty and Freedom," his foreign policy of non-intervention and his open free-trade position.

The local marchers were a diverse group, ranging from the elderly to students at The Evergreen State College.

Paul is a Republican presidential candidate and Texas congressman.

Participants in the local rally met online at ronpaul.meetup.com.
