Adam Wilson expounds on Washington state government, workers and politics. Wilson began covering those issues for the Olympian in 2004. He can be reached at: awilson@theolympian.com.
“Nothing bugs me more as a legislature than having state agencies pointing fingers at one another over something that isn’t being done,” said Rep. Zack Hudgins just now.
The Tukwila Democrat’s case in point was federally required blood testing for lead contamination. The Department of Health said it doesn’t do the testing for children on Medicaid because its not their area, and the Department of Social and Health Services said they follow Health’s standard, and don’t test unless asked.
“It really tweaked me out as a legislator. These agencies, they’re not doing what they’re supposed to be doing,” Hudgins aid.
His bill, HB 3059, passed unanimously. It requires DSHS to perform the testing on Medicaid-eligible children.
