Gregoire to state workers: 'great sacrifice' needed

• Published November 19, 2008

Gov. Chris Gregoire has sent out an email to state employees asking for more input in filling in that $5 billion gap crater in the state budget. (For names for this, eh, challenge see previous post)

She said things are even worse than they were the last time she asked for ideas, and hints at her plans for some sort of big changes in the next budget:

I’m asking you to do much more as I prepare for my second term determined not just to balance the budget, but to significantly transform government. I intend to offer a bold new government reform package this legislative session, and I am looking for your most courageous and creative ideas yet – and not just what you can do within your own agency, but – across the board – how we can significantly make government work better, smarter and yes, at lower cost. It is the only way we will be able to close the financial gap while continuing to deliver the most vital and basic services.
