Rotation of Pritchard cafes continues

• Published June 30, 2009

Making a profit in the largest café space on the west Capitol Campus has proven tough, not unlike running a ski resort year-round. Plenty of customers in January, not so many in July.

The new plan is to allow the vendor to stay open only when the Legislature is in town. From the General Administration:

Fresh Measures Café, the cafeteria in the Pritchard Building, closes June 30. The Culinary Arts program at South Puget Sound Community College, which ran the cafeteria the past two years, is ending operations due to financial considerations.

The college will spend the next two weeks cleaning the space, returning it to General Administration in the same condition as it was two years ago.

A Services for the Blind vendor will fully reopen the cafeteria – named the “Capitol Grill” – on January 4, 2010. The new cafeteria will briefly open, with limited food service, for the 2009 Legislative Assembly days in October and December.

The new vendor is Roy Gappert, who runs the Dome Deli in the Legislative Building and a cafeteria at the Labor and Industries Building in Tumwater. Slight modifications will be made to the kitchen area in the Pritchard Building this summer in preparation for opening in January.

The Capitol Grill menu will generally consist of a variety of grilled items, soups, salads, sandwiches and daily hot specials for breakfast and lunch. Specialty coffee drinks will be available as well.
