The Washington State Patrol’s bomb squad was called in this morning when state workers discovered a grenade-shaped item in mail addressed for a Washington Supreme Court Justice.
It turned out to be a “novelty item,” and not dangerous, said Jim Erskine, a spokesman for the Department of General Administration.
The package was addressed to Justice Richard Sanders and was being screened by Consolidated Mail Services, a division of General Administration that sorts and carries mail for state government agencies.
