Five people arrested Wednesday morning in connection wtih the destruction of a sheriff's patrol car during a Feb. 15 riot outside a hip-hop concert at The Evergreen State College pleaded not guilty to their charges in Thurston County Superior Court Thursday.

Each of the suspects was arraigned on the following charges:

Jake Silberman, a 20-year-old Evergreen student, pleaded not guilty to riot while armed with a deadly weapon and first-degree malicious mischief.

Peter B. Sloan, 18, of Olympia, pleaded not guilty to riot and first-degree malicious mischief.

Chase Hill, a 23-year-old Evergreen student, pleaded not guilty to a charge of second-degree theft.

Monica Ragan, an 18-year-old Evergreen student, pleaded not guilty to riot and first-degree malicious mischief.

Nina Hinton, a 19-year-old Evergreen student, pleaded not guilty to riot and first-degree malicious mischief.

All of the defendants except Sloan were ordered released on their personal recognizance, meaning they did not have to post bail. Sloan was ordered to post $2,500 bail to secure his release. Thurston County Superior Court Judge Anne Hirsch said that she set Sloan's bail different from those of the other defendants because his criminal history is more serious, including a deferred sentence out of Olympia for malicious mischief third-degree, and a pending charge for delivery of drug paraphernalia.

The courtroom was packed Thursday with close to 100 supporters of the people who were arrested Wednesday. There were no disturbances inside or outside the courtroom.
