Thurston County home sales drop not as steep in February

Thurston County home sales fell 24 percent in February, a slight improvement compared to the year-over-year home sale declines of 30 percent in December and January, the Northwest Multiple Listing Service reported today.

Combined sales of single-family residences and condominiums last month fell 24.4 percent to 223 units from 295 units in the same period a year ago, the data show.

While median home prices continue to fall in King, Snohomish, Pierce and Kitsap counties, Thurston County median sales prices remain steady, according to the MLS data.

In the February year-over-year period, combined house and condo median prices rose nearly 4 percent to $259,950 from $250,000, the data show.

Inventory for houses and condos also rose 15 percent to 1,977 units from 1,716 units.

Separate Thurston County data for single-family residences in the year-over-year period show:

• Sales fell 22.4 percent to 215 units from 277 units

• Median prices rose nearly 2 percent to $260,000 from $254,950

• Inventory increased 14 percent to 1,895 units from 1,651 units

For condos in the year-over-year period, the county data show:

• Sales fell 55.6 percent to 8 units from 18 units

• Median prices rose 4 percent to $179,950 from $173,005

• Inventory increased 26 percent to 82 units from 65 units
