I'm interested in hearing from readers -- whether it's a weird bird flying around their backyard to the big fish that broke them off over the weekend to skiing down a favorite run. callen@theolympian.com.
I've seen so many bald eagles this winter -- here in South Sound and also in Oregon. I'm used to seeing the big birds during salmon season -- they love to eat dead salmon -- but I've seen a lot of them all winter long. Bald eagles are hanging out near Priest Point Park, Burfoot Park and Eld Inlet. I also saw a bald eagle a couple weeks ago near our own Deschutes River. The Columbia River is also chock-full of bald eagles this winter. A pair of big adults are a common sight where Oregon's Deschutes River runs into the Columbia River, and I photograhed a juvenile bald eagle near my Hood River place this past weekend. Check out my column in Tuesday's paper - and online - to see a photograph of the bird. I wonder if a lot of bald eagles will show up on Great Backyard Bird Count lists later this week.
