I'm interested in hearing from readers -- whether it's a weird bird flying around their backyard to the big fish that broke them off over the weekend to skiing down a favorite run. I really want my blog to be a conversation, as it's kind of boring to just have one voice chirping away all the time. I can be reached at: callen@theolympian.com.

I didn’t have high hopes when I drove up to Dash Point Park one morning last week.
COLUMBIA RIVER — The sight of 6-pound-test line arcing over the blue-green water of this huge river brought past and present together for me last week.
Every two years, hundreds of thousands of pink salmon swim within a few feet of angler Steve Saville’s property near Dash Point. This year, about 700,000 pinks are expected to swim past as they make their way to the Puyallup River.
All this heat has been pretty cool.
I’ve been thinking about Christmas a lot lately.
GIG HARBOR – Fly-fishing isn’t just the weirdest and fussiest form of pestering fish.
WESTPORT - All of us leave an impression on this planet.
I’ve been thinking all afternoon about a time when we didn’t lug around cell phones, personal digital assistants or laptop computers.
One of the sneaky things about a life spent outdoors is how much time we spend indoors reading guide books.
TUMWATER – Most river anglers have home water – a stretch of stream that is a combination getaway, classroom, testing ground – and stress-free zone.
