The effort in Tumwater to save the sixth grade overnight trip to the Cispus Learning Center was mentioned in an article in the Wall Street Journal about field trips getting cut because of district budget cuts and family financial hardships. Clayton Lundstrom, a Michael T. Simmons elementary sixth grader, told the Journal about his disappointment, illustrating the dashed hopes of thousands of kids nationwide who will have fewer field trips to go to.
The Wall Street Journal cites an American Association of School Administrators survey, which found an increasing number of schools having to cut trips. Check the story out to get that national picture.
