Soldier receives scholarship to Saint Martin’s University

THE OLYMPIAN | • Published November 15, 2009

Saint Martin’s University recently announced that John Blue is the first recipient of the America’s Service Heroes Scholarship. The announcement came at the annual President’s Gala.

More than 370 people attended the event, held at the Great Wolf Lodge in Grand Mound. Blue was one of the soldiers featured recently in The Olympian for a story about prosthetics.

In 2007, Blue was injured in Iraq by an explosively formed projectile resulting in the loss of his right leg below the knee.

Blue is the commandant of the Fort Lewis Warrior Training Academy and has served in multiple duty positions during his 19 years of service as a member of the United States Army. He has deployed twice to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Blue is pursuing a degree in business administration with Saint Martin’s University.
