Tony Overman,
39, has been a staff photographer at The Olympian since 1997.
Since joining
The Olympian, he has earned awards three times in the Best of Gannett
annual competition, including being named top photographer in 1999 and
2000. Overman also earned two awards in the 2000 Pictures of the Year
competition and an award of excellence in the 2001 Pictures of the Year.
He has won
numerous awards in the NPPA Regional Monthly Clip Contest, and the Society
of Professional Journalists and Associated Press annual competitions.
Overman is serving his first term as Director for the NPPA Region 11,
having been elected in December 2001.
He previously
worked as a reporter/photographer at the Albany (Ore.) Democrat-Herald
and as chief photographer at the Corvallis (Ore.) Gazette-Times.
Overman was named the National Press Photographers Association (NPPA)
1994 Region 11 Photographer of the Year for his work at the Albany Democrat-Herald.
Overman is
married to Centralia Chronicle photographer Toni Bailey. Their family
consists of three dogs (including a blind, diabetic Basset hound), a cat
and a love bird.
