Community Involvement opportunities have a gathering place on TheOlympian.com

The holidays are sneaking up on us again. Weren’t we just here about a year ago? Funny, a year seems so long when you think in terms of when you get that week off at the beach again, but when it’s time for the holidays, it’s always just right around the corner.

I actually love this time of year, but I’ll admit, it’s stressful. Here at work, it’s time for Light of Hope, and working with numerous organizations to get the message out that help is needed, or that help is available.

I got to thinking about this a couple of weeks ago, and thought it would be awesome if there was one specific place located on our Web site where we could put all of this information together. Hence, the birth of the Community Involvement page. It’s a link under the Living tab on our home page.

If you’re looking for a place to volunteer, to see who volunteered with all their heart, who needs help, or who can offer a helping hand, it’s a great place to check out. We’ve added in our Getting Involved listings of clubs and groups, fundraising events, and tid bits from readers who just want to let others know what they’re doing that may benefit the community.

We’re adding as much content as we receive on a daily basis, and the really important thing is, that having this additional place to inform the public of ways to get involved, means that many events and organizations that might otherwise not get enough space, or might be too late for our print calendars, will still be able to publicize events.

Stop by and check it out here, and if you have a fundraiser, or a holiday help event approaching, or you know a place in need of volunteers, send us the information. You can fax to: 360-357-0202, attn: Community Involvement, or email: tmcgee@theolympian.com, and if you prefer good old fashioned snail mail: The Olympian, Attn: Community Involvement, P.O. Box 407, Olympia, WA 98507. Any questions, call 360-754-5447.
