Radical Reels brings film tour to Olympia The Radical Reels Tour, featuring some of the most high-energy films from last fall's Banff Mountain Film Festival, is coming to Olympia on Friday.
This year’s tour includes films on cross-country snowboarding, mountain biking, skiing, rock climbing, skateboarding and kayaking.
Among the movies scheduled to be shown are:
“Cross Country Snowboarding”: A three-minute film from Canada, directed by Adam Brodie and produced by Geoff McLean. It follows two Nordic snowboarders who “battle the winter elements as they fight prejudice from skiers and regular snowboarders alike.”
Never miss a local story.
“Light the Wick”: A 25-minute American film directed and produced by Steve Jones. The film follows the Teton Gravity Research crew as they hit the powder at Stevens Pass, discover the unskied big mountain playground of Petersburg, Alaska, and enjoy an epic powder day at Wyoming’s Jackson Hole.
“The Ultimate Ride – Steve Fisher”: A 19-minute film from the U.S., “Ultimate Ride” was directed by Erich Lyttle and produced by Scott Bradfield. In the film, kayaker Steve Fisher brings together big-water kayakers to experience the power of Africa’s Zambezi River.
“Tuzgle”: A 13-minute French film, directed and produced by Julien Nadiras and Vladimir Cellier, takes viewers to the Tuzgle volcano in Argentina. Cameras capture the action as Swiss climber Nina Caprez and her climbing companions discover this unexplored area of boulders and crags.
The Radical Reels Tour will visit more than 50 cities in almost 20 states and Canadian provinces. Hosted by the Olympia Mountaineers, this is the only Puget Sound stop during the early portion of the tour. It will return to Seattle in September.
The doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the show will start at 7:30 p.m. at the Capitol Theater, 206 E. Fifth Ave., Olympia.
Tickets are $13 for general audience. There is a $2 discount for members of the Mountaineers and Olympia Film Society, students and members of the military with identification.
You can get your tickets in advance at The Alpine Experience and Olympic Outfitters or online at BrownPaperTickets.com. Tickets also will be sold at the door. For more information, go to www.olympiamountaineers.org.
