Doctors Without Borders film comes to Olympia theater

THE OLYMPIAN | • Published November 25, 2009

On Dec. 14, audiences across the country – including at the Cinemark Capital Mall 14 theaters in West Olympia – will get a rare look inside the Nobel Peace Prize-winning independent humanitarian aid organization Doctors Without Borders.

“Living in Emergency: Stories of Doctors Without Borders – Live with Elizabeth Vargas,” will be shown for one night only in 450 theaters nationwide.

The documentary shows the dilemmas facing Doctors Without Borders staff in the field and the toll their work can take on them both personally and professionally. Following the documentary, “20/20” anchor Vargas will moderate a panel discussion broadcast from New York City, where audiences will hear from Dr. Tom Krueger (a surgeon featured in the documentary), award-winning journalists, including Sebastian Junger (“The Perfect Storm” author and Vanity Fair contributing editor) and Sophie Delaunay (executive director of Doctors Without Borders USA).

The film will be shown at 8 p.m. in Olympia and will be tape-delayed. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased at the theater box office and online at www.FathomEvents.com.
