"Happy Cat Happy You" by Arden Moore (Storey Publishing, $10.95) aims to help cat owners get inside of the feline mind - no simple task - and bridge the owner-pet gap. For instance:
1. You might be amused the first time little Felix pulls all of the tissue from the box and shreds it. But it gets old in a hurry. Turn the tissue box upside-down when not in use.
2. Cats at an advanced age can lose their hearing. They often vocalize loudly be cause they can't hear themselves. Indicate on your cat's ID collar that he is deaf, and put a bell on his collar to help you locate him around the house.
3. Don't use plastic bowls. They are too easy to tip over and can give food or water an unpleasant taste.
4. A cat's sense of smell can diminish with age. Your pet might not be as excited about meals. To combat that, warm his food briefly in the microwave. Warming it will bring out the smell and make it more enticing.
