tonight's best bets

"Miracle on 34th Street," 8 p.m. on CBUT. Remake of the 1947 film about a youngster (Mara Wilson) whose skepticism about Santa challenged by a man (Richard Attenborough) claiming to be Kris Kringle. Elizabeth Perkins and Dylan McDermott also star.

"Prancer," 8 p.m. on AMC. An 8-year-old (Rebecca Harrell) believes that an injured reindeer found in a Midwest forest is part of Santa's team. Sam Elliott and Cloris Leachman also star.

"The Family Stone," 10 p.m. on FX. Christmas doesn't prove very merry to a stuffy New York City career woman (Sarah Jessica Parker) attending a holiday reunion of her fiance's offbeat clan. Funny and moving. Diane Keaton, Craig T. Nelson, Claire Danes and Rachel McAdams also star.

"A Christmas Carol," 10:30 p.m. on AMC. George C. Scott stars at Ebenezer Scrooge, Charles Dickens' humbug who get a large helping of Yuletide spirit.
