A 2-year-old boy was taken by helicopter to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle today after he was struck in the left leg by a riding mower outside his home on 63rd Avenue Northeast.

Emergency responders were dispatched to the home near Johnson Point about 3:45 p.m. after the boy was reported struck, said South Bay Assistant Fire Chief Greg Kessel. The child suffered serious injuries to his lower right leg, Kessel said.

The child initially was taken by ambulance to Providence St. Peter Hospital, but he was later taken to Harborview, emergency dispatchers said.

Kessel said he is not sure who was driving the mower when the boy was struck.
