  • Recognizing and celebrating diversity are critically important

This is my last column for The Olympian, and I have enjoyed writing columns that have sparked interest and debate.

I have received many comments and kudos of a positive nature and have corresponded with bloggers from as far away as Turkey. Imagine that. This is all because The Olympian has allowed people like myself in the community a platform.

I believe both The Olympian’s editorial board and Diversity Panel are great opportunities for those in our community who wish to get across their view and provide a different mirror to the community at large.

  • Tiger's stumble can be a lesson for the rest of us to learn

Here's to Tiger Woods answering to the man in the mirror.

  • Has push for inclusiveness, diversity watered down standards?

    posted 07:27 AM 10/29

I am all for diversity and inclusiveness. However, there is a caveat: You must have the chops.

  • Divisions within Republican Party will be apparent in November

    posted 11:45 PM 09/23

With the recent victories of tea party candidates in both Delaware and New York, one would think that this would be good news to the GOP. In actuality, this is really great news for progressives and liberals, and the Democratic Party.

  • Ground zero mosque is a right, not a privilege

    posted 07:06 AM 08/20

Listening to current opinions, some of us cannot see how our position on the ground zero Mosque and the unwillingness to see the benefit of this building extends far beyond the standing structure.

  • Are the people with the most experience running state agencies?

    posted 07:33 AM 07/16

My father, a Cuban émigré, vowed to never vote for another Democrat after the Bay of Pigs. He has held true to this pledge up to this day.

  • Oil spill disaster shows a lack of preparation

    posted 09:02 AM 06/11

The old "It's not what you know, it's who you know," adage has struck again. This time the example is out for the whole world to see. And it's not just in the federal government, it's at state level as well.

  • Prepare for troops’ transition before tragedy strikes

    posted 02:32 AM 05/07

With the recent tragedy of a soldier accused of killing and then disposing of his wife’s body within the vicinity of their daughter, I have only one reply: It’s going to get worse.

  • Recent actions a microcosm of what's wrong with America

    posted 07:27 AM 04/02

I hate additional taxes. I hate having to pay for someone else's wrong choices. I'm a conservative. And being a conservative, I believe that my successes should not be the paradigm or provide the support for those who did not serve their country like I did, went to respiratory school like I did, study for my undergraduate degree like I did. This includes the copious studying needed for my master's degree, or the sacrifice I made, and volunteered for when I went to airborne school and Desert Storm.

  • Prosecutor was right to drop 'sexting' charges

    posted 07:31 AM 02/26

Whew. I'm so glad Thurston County Deputy Prosecutor Rick Peters made the decision to not pursue sexting charges against - operative word here - kids who used their cell phones to pass along a nude photograph of a 14-year-old girl.
