DUI enforcement patrols will be out this weekend in Thurston County with the start of summer, according to a Lacey Police Department release. The Washington State Patrol, Thurston County Sheriff's Office and police departments from Lacey, Tenino and Yelm will be participating in the program. The campaign is funded by the Washington Traffic Safety Commission.
The Thurston County Target Zero Task Force chose Yelm and surrounding area for emphasis because of the upcoming Prairie Days festival which starts on Thursday. Though officers will be patrolling throughout the county, there will be a special focus on roads with a high number of serious collisions due to impaired drivers. State routes 510, 507, Martin Way, and Pacific Ave/Lacey Blvd will be targeted with high-visibility patrols.
“Summer festivals and back-yard parties are a great way to celebrate summer days, but we still need to be responsible and it is our duty to ensure safety on the roads” says Lt. Chris Ward of Lacey Police Department and Law Enforcement Liaison for Target Zero Thurston.
