Police continue to investigate a fatal officer-involved shooting in downtown Seattle Monday afternoon. Around 4:15 p.m, an officer was driving in the area of Boren Ave and Howell St. when he came across a man sitting on a retaining wall on a corner of the intersection.
Police spokeswoman Renee Witt says the officer spotted a man holding a knife and apparently whittling a piece of wood. The officer stopped his patrol car and told the man to put the knife down. The man refused and stood up to face the officer with the knife still in his hand. The officer again ordered the man to put it down. When he again refused the officer fired several shots, fatally striking the man.
Seattle Fire medics were called to the scene but were unable to revive the suspect.
