BELLINGHAM - A 55-year-old Bellingham man was injured after three to four men allegedly attacked him late Saturday, Oct. 23.
The man told police he had been downtown drinking and was walking home at about 10:47 p.m. when he crossed the crosswalk at Ellis and York streets and was nearly hit by a truck, said Mark Young spokesman for the Bellingham Police Department.
He yelled toward the vehicle for failing to yield, and the truck abruptly stopped, Young said. Three to four men allegedly got out of the truck, and one of them had a baseball bat, he said.
The suspects rushed toward the man, and a brief struggle ensued. The one with the baseball bat allegedly swung at the man, hitting his foot, Young said.
The men got back into the truck and drove off. No further description on the truck or the suspects was available. The victim did not require hospitalization, Young said.
The attack is similar to one Saturday, Sept. 25, when a group of four to five men with baseball bats hopped out of a truck and assaulted a bicyclist. That case remains under investigation.
