Pierce County sheriff's detectives are investigating what led up to a shooting early Thursday that injured a woman.
The woman drove herself to St. Clare Hospital in Lake-wood with a gunshot wound. The injuries are not considered life-threatening, Pierce County sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer said.
Lakewood police officers initially were called to the hospital after the woman and a friend had shown up. Officers found several bullet holes in the driver’s side of the woman’s car. The driver’s side window also was shattered, Lakewood police Lt. Chris Lawler said.
The driver had gunshot wounds to her right heel and abdomen. The woman and her companion appeared to be intoxicated and were not cooperative, Lawler said.
Lakewood police officers determined the shooting occurred in the county and called Pierce County sheriff’s deputies to investigate further, Lawler said.
Sheriff’s investigators have gotten few answers about what happened.
“We are working on the details of what led up to it,” Troyer said.
Investigators do not believe the woman shot herself.
