Kennewick - A 41-year-old Kennewick man accused of running over a mother and daughter in the Denny's parking lot told police he’d taken five shots of whiskey before going to the liquor store for more alcohol.
After finding the liquor store closed around 9:30 p.m. Oct. 23, Larry Eldhardt Jr. said he drove to Denny’s to get something to eat but became distracted by his dog and struck Maria Solorzano and her infant daughter, court documents said.
Denny’s is in the same shopping center parking lot as the liquor store at Highway 395 and Kennewick Avenue.
Eldhardt Jr., who has a DUI charge pending from July 25, is charged with vehicular assault, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
He has pleaded innocent to the charges and his trial is set for Dec. 20 in Benton County Superior Court. He's been released from jail on $75,000 bail and ordered not to drive.
