A greedy burglar who had returned for more loot at a Ocean Shores home was foiled by a smoke detector that mysteriously went off Tuesday night.
According to the report:
Police and fire units responded to a possible fire or smoke alarm that was sounding inside a residence located in the 300 block of Point Brown Ave. N.W. around 8:15 p.m.
No smoke was visible, but the arriving officer did notice that a window had been removed from its frame. He also spotted fresh footprints in the snow. Following the trail, he found a man hiding underneath a deck. A check of the house did confirm that there was no fire but a burglary had occurred.
A 34-year-old Hoquiam man was arrested. The suspect later admitted to breaking into the residence earlier in the day and stealing a television and VCR among other items and selling them in Hoquiam. He returned to get more when the detector sounded.
He was booked into Grays Harbor County Jail.
