King County prosecutors will decide by Monday whether to file formal charges against a Federal Way-area man arrested in connection with the death of his girlfriend's 2-year-old daughter.
Ron Wallace Jr., 28, was arrested Monday, and taken to the King County Jail in Seattle. He was ordered held in lieu of $2 million bail. He waived a court appearance Wednesday.
Wallace was watching the child Sunday while his girlfriend was at work, according to the King County Sheriff’s Office, which gave this account:
Wallace called for medical aid about 1 p.m. and emergency medical personnel arrived at the woman’s apartment in the 36200 block of 21st Place South, just outside the city limits.
They found the child unresponsive, with a head injury and numerous wounds. She was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where she died.
At first, Wallace said he found the child unresponsive in her bed. He later told detectives a different story, admitting he became angry because the child soiled her diaper.
“He punished her by hitting her 6 or 7 times with a belt,” a sheriff’s report states. “He shook her many times and she went limp. He also slapped her many times with an open hand on the side of her head.”
The report adds the child had many bruises and cut marks on her body, old and new. Court records and the sheriff’s report state that Wallace has a record of domestic violence, including a 2005 incident involving an infant victim.
