King County prosecutors charged a 28-year-old Federal Way-area man Monday with second-degree murder in the death of his girlfriend's 2-year-old daughter.
Ron Wallace Jr. is being held in King County Jail in Seattle in lieu of $2 million bail.
Wallace was watching the child while his girlfriend was at work on Nov. 21. After initially saying he found the child unresponsive when he went to wake her, Wallace admitted to detectives he became frustrated with the child because she soiled her diaper.
According to a report from the King County Sheriff’s Office, Wallace punished her by hitting her six or seven times with a belt.
The report continued: “He also said he shook her many times and she went limp. Wallace also slapped her with an open hand many times on the side of her head.”
Wallace called for medical aid to the residence in the 36200 block of 21st Place South, just outside the city limits.
Emergency medical personnel treated and transported the child for head trauma and numerous wounds and bruises to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where she died.
Wallace has two prior assault convictions, including one in 2005 for second-degree assault of his eight-week-old daughter.
If convicted of second-degree murder, Wallace could be sentenced from 12 years to 20 years four months in prison.
He is scheduled to be arraigned at 9 a.m. Dec. 8 at the Regional Justice Center in Kent.
