A man was found dead off Kresky Avenue Monday in a transient camp by officers with the state Department of Corrections when the man failed to appear for a scheduled appointment earlier in the day. The officers knew he camped in the area.
The man, described to be in his mid-60s, has not been identified. The Lewis County Coroner’s Office is still trying to contact his next of kin.
Chehalis police and emergency medical services had the right lane of Kresky Avenue in the 2000 block blocked off for about five hours — beginning after 4:30 p.m. — while investigators accessed the scene and investigated the death. The man was located in a tent about 150 yards off the street and in the woods, slightly up a hill.
The area is on the east side of Kresky Avenue behind an abandoned house, about 150 yards past a driveway for the Yard Birds Mall on the west side of Kresky.
Investigators say the man’s cause of death appears to be natural.
