Eighteen years after walking away from a Connell prison, a 37-year-old man admitted what he did was wrong.
Artemio Mercado-Anaya was given a six-month jail sentence last week in Franklin County Superior Court after pleaded guilty to first-degree escape.
He faced up to a year in jail.
Mercado-Anaya was incarcerated at Coyote Ridge Corrections Center serving a prison term for possessing drugs with intent to deliver when he walked away from the prison on Sept. 18, 1992, court documents said.
He was charged with escape three months later. A warrant was issued for his arrest in September 2010, when Mercado-Anaya was discovered at a prison in Shelton.
He was then returned to Franklin County to face the escape charge.
