The wife of a Washington Transportation Department worker who was killed by a falling tree says she thought he had been hurt when a co-worker and state trooper came to her door in North Bend.
Betty Rhynalds told KOMO News she expected to go to the hospital, but they told her there was nowhere to go because Billy "Bud" Rhynalds had been killed.
He was setting up safety cones at downed power line on a highway near Carnation Sunday night when he was hit on the head by a tree that fell on his truck.
The 66-year-old had worked for the department for 12 years after working for Weyerhaeuser and serving in the National Guard.
He was the 59th DOT employee to die on the job in the agency's 105-year history.
