Oregon State Police say a Vancouver, Wash., man driving a big rig tractor cab on Interstate 5 lost control, went airborne and ended up on the bank of the Calapooia River.
Trooper Don Rummer says 54-year-old Patrick W. Smith suffered only minor injuries in Wednesday's crash.
The trooper says the 1995 Freightliner was southbound near Brownsville when it crossed the median and entered the northbound lanes. The truck then swerved back into the median until it hit a culvert and flew through the air for about 25 yards until touching down on the river bank. The vehicle came to rest with its front tires submerged in the river.
Smith was cited for failing to maintain his lane, possession of less than an ounce of marijuana and possessing a controlled substance in a commercial motor vehicle.
